Cleomella refracta is native to central and southern California, northwestern Mexico and the southwestern United States. The species occurs in sandy flats, in desert scrub, and on disturbed sites such as roadsides. Cleomella refracta is an annual herb up to 79 inches tall. Leaves are have three leaflets that are egg-shaped and up to 2 inches long. Flowers are yellow.
