False Wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata ssp. spicata) is a native grass that grows in northern, southern and central California. It is fast growing and long-lived. It grows in an upright form to a height of 3 feet, with active growth during the spring, summer, fall. Flowers are yellow and bloom in the early summer. Leaves are gray-green and deciduous. It tends to grow in open areas, at elevations from 2600-5400 feet.
