Epilobium ‘Desi’s Blossom’

Desi’s blossom fuchsia (Epilobium ‘Desi’s Blossom’) is a low, slightly spreading deciduous perennial in the evening primrose family. This hybrid is a natural cross between Epilobium canum ‘Catalina’ and E. latifolium, combining some of the best traits of both species. It forms a small, upright mound and produces a prolific display of bright red-orange tubular flowers that bloom late summer into fall. The flowers are a favorite of hummingbirds, which are also responsible for the hybrid’s origin—this selection resulted from natural cross-pollination in a garden.

Like other Epilobium cultivars, it thrives in full sun, is drought-adapted once established, and works well in borders, slopes, or pollinator gardens. Occasional pruning after bloom can help maintain a compact shape and encourage more flowers the following season.
