Baby blue eyes (Nemophila menziesii var. atomaria) is a flowering annual in the Boraginaceae, or borage/forget-me-not family, found in grasslands in Northwestern California and Oregon. This variety of Nemophila menziesii has white flowers with black dots, often with a faint blue tint or blue veins, other times a pure white.
Sow seed October through February. This plant has a low, creeping growth and blooms from early spring to mid-summer. It works well in a wildflower garden or as a container plant. It will resow itself reliably if non-native grasses and weeds are controlled. Protect seedlings in spring and fall from slugs.
Baby blue eyes is visited by many pollinators and is a favorite of native bees.
