Blue toadflax (Nuttallanthus texanus) is an annual (occasionally biennial) wildflower in the Plantaginaceae (plantain) family. It features tiny violet to pale blue, two lipped flowers that bloom atop tall, slender stalks emerging from a basal rosette of narrow leaves. Native to much of the western United States, blue toadflax is commonly found in disturbed soils, but also thrives in dunes, grasslands, and open woodlands.
This plant adds a delicate and subtle touch of color to woodland gardens and naturalized settings. When planted in mass, it can form a soft sea of blue blooms.
