Wyethia helenioides is a species of flowering plants in the sunflower family commonly referred to as gray mule’s ears. These are short, low growing golden-rayed wildflowers that resemble sunflowers. This species occurs chiefly in California’s North Coast Range, Central Coast range and some parts of the Sierra Nevada foothills. Typical understory associated in sunny clearings of mixed oak forests in coastal California include Mimulus aurantiacus and Calochortus luteus.
